Luxmader Blinds are Timber Venetian Blinds manufactured in Spain using Obeche Wood, a West African hardwood. Obeche is a ‘not-at-risk’ wood, being replanted continuously. We are often asked the difference between these Timber Blinds and ‘Designer Label’ blinds- these are handmade- literally made by hand- whereas most well-known ‘Designer Label’ blinds are actually made by machines. It does make a difference- and Obeche timber has a beautiful grain anyway! (Incidentally, nearly all our other blinds are handmade in our Nottingham factory)
Obeche is almost as light-weight as Balsa wood, but extremely stable in temperature and humidity changes, hence why Saunas and boats are manufactured from it and virtually no warping from sunshine which is ideal for blinds. Our supplier, Fusta of Valencia, air-dries the Obeche (most blinds timber is kiln-dried- no wonder they always say ‘we can’t guarantee against warping’!) so warping is virtually unknown.
Fusta were originally furniture manufacturers but switched to blind-making in the 1980s, and are now considered the premier blinds makers in the world- they have another factory in Mexico. All their blinds are handmade of course.
The Luxmader range is ideal for large blinds as operation will be lighter and smoother than any other types of timber used in blind manufacture. We buy the Luxmader range directly from the manufacturer in Spain and have several trade clients (other Blind companies & Interior Designers) all over the UK who specifically come to us for this product as it is so good.
